Your gateway to the world of GGUT
The Weißsee Glacier World Trail starts at Enzingerboden (1,483 m) near the lower terminus of the cable car to the Weißsee Glacier World. Soon you will pass the Grünsee lake, then continue from the intermediate terminus of the cable car directly to the Berghotel Rudolfshütte (2,315 m). From there, the technically difficult route leads to the Tauernmoos reservoir (approx. 2,000 m) and immediately back uphill through the Rifflkar and along the Rifflsee lake over the highest point of the route, the Kapruner Törl (2,639 m). The descent begins over a snowfield, then continues on fine trails along the Mooserboden reservoir with a view of the Wiesbachhorn. After crossing the enormous dam, the route continues downhill, which is technically challenging in parts, to the Kaprun Gletscherbahn lift, from where it is flat all the way to the finish at Salzburger Platz in Kaprun.
The route passes three glaciers and around 300 peaks over 3,000 m.
GWT is a good introduction to high-alpine trail running, but with 1,500 altitude metres and often very difficult terrain, it is still no walk in the park. However, it is definitely feasible for runners with some mountain experience and the appropriate preparation. Experience in endurance sports, preferably in the mountains, sure-footedness and experience in alpine terrain are prerequisites. For prerequisites and minimum equipment, see below in the ‘Prerequisites’ or ‘Minimum Equipment’ section.

A processing fee of € 15 will be charged for all such changes; a fee of € 30 will be charged for all changes made on site during the race weekend.
We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance when you register. The refund conditions can be found in the insurance terms and conditions.
Nature of the race
The Weißsee Glacier World Trail (GWT) is a running event that takes place largely in high alpine terrain, with one section at an altitude of over 2,600 metres. At least one snowfield must be crossed, and possibly more in poor conditions. Over long stretches (80%), the route leads over trails that are (sometimes very) technically demanding. Poor weather conditions (cold, rain, snow) and nighttime add to the difficulty. The most difficult are the descent from Berghotel Rudolfshütte, the ascent/descent to the Kapruner Törl (2,639 m) and (in part) the descent from the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs.
Requirements
All participants must be physically fit and sure-footed in order to complete the course in accordance with the rules. Experience in longer endurance events, preferably in the mountains, but in any case combined with experience and confidence in moving in high alpine terrain, are essential prerequisites for participation. The minimum age for participation is 16 (if the participant is not of legal age, the consent of their legal representative must be provided).
