Scope, Organiser and Regulations
1. The North Face Großglockner Ultra-Trail (hereinafter ‘GGUT’) is an event organised by Zell am See-Kaprun Tourismus GmbH (hereinafter ‘the Organiser’).
2. These General Terms and Conditions (GTC) govern the contractual relationship between the Organiser and the participants in all races offered as part of the GGUT.
3. Upon completion of registration, the participant accepts these GTC in the version valid at the time of registration.
4. The regulations published for the respective event, the information on the individual races, the mandatory equipment lists, and the published route, time limit and safety information form an integral and binding part of the conditions of participation.
5. The GTC govern, in particular, the contractual and financial conditions of participation. The regulations govern, in particular, the sporting, organisational and safety-related provisions of the event.
6. In the event of any conflict between these General Terms and Conditions and the regulations, these General Terms and Conditions shall take precedence with regard to contractual provisions. With regard to the immediate conduct of the race, safety and sporting decisions, the instructions of the race organisers and the provisions of the regulations shall apply.
Eligibility criteria and personal responsibility
1. Persons who meet the requirements published for the respective competition, in particular with regard to minimum age, qualification, physical fitness and, where applicable, any required proof of performance, are eligible to participate.
2. The specific participation and qualification requirements for individual events are published in the regulations or in the relevant event description.
3. Some of the GGUT routes pass through alpine and high-alpine terrain and may include sections at high altitudes as well as difficult weather, terrain and visibility conditions. These include, in particular, cold, rain, snow, wind, fog, darkness and rapid changes in weather.
4. Each participant is responsible for ensuring that they are physically, mentally and technically capable of completing the chosen event under the expected conditions.
5. A prerequisite for taking part is the proper completion of the entry and registration process, as well as compliance with all the conditions of participation stipulated for the respective event.
6. Participants are obliged to respect the alpine environment, protected areas, private land and the regulations of nature reserves and national parks, and to follow the instructions of the organiser and the relevant authorities.
Mandatory Equipment and Safety
1. Every participant is obliged to carry the full set of compulsory equipment published for the respective event throughout the event.
2. The type and scope of the compulsory equipment are published in the regulations, in the relevant event description or in a separate list of compulsory equipment.
3. The organiser or race management may add to, amend or reduce the compulsory equipment before or during the event, depending on the current weather, course or safety conditions.
4. The compulsory equipment may be checked before the start, during the event and after crossing the finish line.
5. Failure to carry mandatory equipment, refusal to undergo a check, or other breaches of the safety regulations may result in a ban from starting, a time penalty or disqualification in accordance with the regulations.
6. The race organisers, as well as doctors, medical staff and officials authorised by the organiser, are entitled to withdraw participants from the competition, either temporarily or permanently, for health or safety reasons, or if they fail to meet a prescribed time limit (cut-off time).
Regulations, Conduct and Fair Play
1. Every participant is obliged to comply with the regulations in force at the time, as well as with the instructions of the race organisers, marshals, medical services and any other persons appointed by the organiser.
2. In particular, participants are obliged to
  • follow the marked route,
  • refrain from taking unauthorised shortcuts or using unauthorised aids,
  • to comply with the regulations regarding external support and accompaniment,
  • to provide assistance to other people in distress to the extent that this is reasonable,
  • to comply with environmental and nature conservation regulations,
  • to dispose of rubbish exclusively at designated points, and
  • to behave fairly and respectfully towards participants, volunteers, local residents, walkers, spectators and event staff.
3. Specific breaches and the corresponding penalties are set out in the list of penalties in the regulations.
4. Depending on the nature and severity of a breach, penalties may include, in particular, time penalties, non-classification, disqualification or exclusion from the event.
Timekeeping, time limits and withdrawal
1. Timekeeping is carried out using the timing system deployed by the organiser for the respective competition.
2. The start times, checkpoints and time limits applicable to the individual events are published in the regulations or in the relevant event information.
3. Participants who fail to meet a prescribed time limit may be withdrawn from the competition in accordance with the provisions of the regulations.
4. Participants who withdraw from the event prematurely (DNF) must report their withdrawal immediately in accordance with the procedure published in the regulations.
5. If a participant leaves the event without duly withdrawing and this triggers a search or rescue operation, the resulting costs may be charged to the participant, insofar as this is permitted by law.
Route, Weather, Changes, Interruption and Cancellation
1. The GGUT is an outdoor event taking place in alpine and high-alpine terrain. Changes in weather, route conditions and safety circumstances are an inherent part of the event.
2. The organiser or race management is entitled, in particular for safety, weather, regulatory or organisational reasons,
  • to change or postpone start times,
  • to alter routes or sections of the route,
  • to shorten routes,
  • to adjust checkpoints or time limits,
  • to close individual sections of the route,
  • to suspend or cancel a race, or
  • to cancel a race or the entire event.
3. Changes, shortening or interruptions to a race that has already started do not, as a rule, entitle participants to a full or partial refund of the entry fee.
4. If the event is cancelled more than ten days before the scheduled start, the organiser shall refund to participants the portion of the entry fee remaining after deduction of the unavoidable event costs already incurred up to the time of cancellation.
5. If the event is cancelled ten days or less before the scheduled start for reasons beyond the organiser’s control, in particular due to extreme weather conditions, natural disasters, official orders or comparable exceptional circumstances, there is generally no entitlement to a refund of the entry fee.
6. Participants’ mandatory statutory claims remain unaffected by the above provisions.
7. Any further claims, in particular for reimbursement of travel, accommodation, meals or other costs incurred in connection with participation, shall only arise within the scope of the statutory liability provisions.
Registration, Participation Fee and Payment
1. Registration takes place via the online registration platform specified by the organiser.
2. Registration is binding. The participation agreement comes into effect upon successful completion of the registration process.
3. The participation fee becomes payable upon completion of the registration in accordance with the terms and conditions of the registration platform.
4. The amount of the participation fee, fee scales, registration deadlines and any closing date for entries for the 2027 event will be published on the official website or the registration platform.
5. There is no entitlement to the acceptance of a registration. Registration may be closed, in particular, once the participant limit has been reached or after the entry deadline has passed.
6. Late entries after the published closing date are only possible if the organiser expressly announces this. Without such an announcement, late entries are not permitted.
7. Fees charged by the payment or registration service provider may be payable in addition to the participation fee and will be shown during the registration process.
GGUT Flex Option and Changes to Registration
1. Where offered for the 2027 event, a GGUT Flex Option may be booked during online registration for an additional fee.
2. Depending on the terms and conditions published for 2027, the Flex Option may include, in particular, the following services:
  • Switching to a different race or distance,
  • Transfer of the starting place to another person, or
  • Postponing participation to the subsequent event.
3. The services included, as well as the applicable deadlines, fees and procedures, will be published on the website or during the registration process before the Flex Option is finalised.
4. A claim to the benefits of the Flex Option exists only within the published deadlines and subject to compliance with the prescribed procedure.
5. Transferring a starting place to another person outside the options provided by the organiser is not permitted.
Cancellation by the participant
1. Cancellation by the participant must be made via the communication or registration channels provided by the organiser.
2. For cancellations made up to and including 30 April 2027, 30 per cent of the basic entry fee will be refunded.
3. After this deadline has passed, there is no entitlement to a refund of the participation fee.
4. Additional services and merchandise items that have already been ordered or personalised are excluded from a refund, provided these have already been produced, ordered or made available.
5. As part of the registration process, the organiser may offer or recommend that participants take out external cancellation insurance. The insurance terms and conditions of the respective insurer shall apply exclusively to the benefits provided under such cover.
6. Rights arising from a booked Flex Option remain unaffected by this paragraph.
Failure to attend, exclusion and starting place
1. In the event of a no-show without timely cancellation, there is no entitlement to a refund of the entry fee.
2. The starting place is personal and may only be transferred to another person in accordance with the options expressly provided for by the organiser.
3. The organiser is entitled to exclude a participant from the start or from further participation if, in particular,
  • fails to meet the entry requirements,
  • provides false information,
  • breaches the terms and conditions or regulations,
  • endangers the safety of other people or the event,
  • transfers a starting place or race number without authorisation,
  • breaches applicable anti-doping regulations, or
  • fails to follow binding instructions from the race organisers or security personnel.
4. In the event of exclusion or disqualification for reasons attributable to the participant, there shall generally be no entitlement to a refund of the entry fee.
Liability, Insurance, Rescue and Recovery
1. Participation in GGUT events is at the participant’s own risk and under their own responsibility.
2. The organiser shall be liable in accordance with statutory provisions for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, as well as for personal injury, insofar as an exclusion of liability is not permitted by law.
3. Any liability on the part of the organiser beyond this is excluded, insofar as permitted by law.
4. The organiser accepts no liability for the loss, theft or damage to personal belongings, equipment, luggage or drop bags, unless the damage was caused by the organiser through wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
5. Every participant is obliged to hold personal accident insurance valid within the event area. In particular, this must provide adequate cover for the costs of medical treatment and any necessary rescue and recovery operations, including helicopter rescue.
6. Each participant is personally responsible for ensuring, before the start of the event, that their insurance cover is valid and sufficient for the entire duration of the event, the event area and the chosen competition category.
7. If, in the opinion of the race organisers, medical staff, mountain rescue services or other relevant emergency services, a rescue, recovery or evacuation operation is necessary, the safety and health of the person concerned shall take priority. This applies in particular to the deployment of a rescue helicopter. A rescue or recovery operation required for medical or safety reasons cannot be refused or delayed on the grounds that the participant does not wish to bear the resulting costs or does not have adequate insurance cover.
8. The decision regarding the nature and scope of any necessary rescue or recovery operation rests with the relevant medical professionals, rescue organisations or emergency services within the scope of their statutory powers.
9. Costs for rescue, recovery, evacuation or medical treatment that are not covered by the organiser, an insurance company or any other funding body must be borne by the participant themselves, insofar as this is permitted by law.
10. The organiser does not guarantee that a participant’s insurance will cover the actual costs incurred for rescue, recovery or treatment.
Data Protection and Photographic, Video and Audio Recordings
1. Participants’ personal data will be processed by the organiser and the service providers engaged by the organiser, insofar as this is necessary for the registration, organisation, conduct, safety, timekeeping and evaluation of the event.
2. Details regarding the processing of personal data, the respective legal bases, recipients, retention periods and the rights of data subjects are set out in the organiser’s current privacy policy.
3. Photographs, video and audio recordings may be made during the event. Their processing and use, in particular for reporting, documentation and public relations purposes, shall be carried out in accordance with the applicable legal provisions and the published data protection information.
4. For the purposes of organising, timing and ensuring the safety of the event, timing, location or tracking data may be processed, insofar as this is provided for in the relevant competition rules and is legally permissible.
5. Results, including in particular name, event, race number, finishing time, ranking and age group, may be published in connection with the organisation and documentation of the event.
Final Provisions
1. Austrian law shall apply, to the exclusion of any referral provisions that would lead to the application of foreign law, insofar as this is permitted by law.
2. Statutory provisions protecting consumers remain unaffected.
3. Should any individual provisions of these General Terms and Conditions be or become wholly or partially invalid or unenforceable, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
4. The place of jurisdiction shall be Zell am See, Austria, insofar as a corresponding agreement on the place of jurisdiction is permitted by law.
5. The organiser may amend these General Terms and Conditions for future bookings. For a participation contract that has already been concluded, the version valid at the time of booking shall generally apply, unless amendments are required due to mandatory legal, regulatory or safety-related requirements.
