It is close to 23.00, Kaprun. The glaciers of Kitzsteinhorn are delicately shimmering in the moon light. Respectfully we look up to the
glaciers of the Kitzsteinhorn from where we will look down to Kaprun on the last kilometres of our joint experience.
We switch on our headlamps and start our adventure, accompanied by cheering fans, on our way out of Kaprun, then we turn
towards the mountains, forming a chain of lights. After the first 1200 meters altitude climb we carefully find our way through the night, then downhill until we are welcomed by the lights
of the village Fusch. Along the river Fuscher Ache to the first supply station
in Ferleiten. Then
still some kilometers rather flat through Käfertal, concentrating on the first huge climb up to Untere Pflandlscharte. Then we leave civilisation for good and climb uphill without compromise until we cross the Alps at 2663m for the first time. Right ahead of us we can see the Grossglockner,
its glaciers shimmering in the first light of the day.
Further down we pass the second supply station at the Glocknerhaus, then across the dam and again uphill along a fantastic trail, the Wiener Höhenweg. Salmhütte offers us a friendly welcome.
Quickly we pass and climb 200 m uphill towards the roof of the GGUT at Pfortscharte in 2838 m. We enjoy a brilliant view on Grossglockner and then
concentrate on the downhill towards Ködnitztal and then down the valley to the regular refreshment post at Lucknerhaus (1920 m).
Just behind Lucknerhaus we turn right into a climb of about 300 m along "Greiwiesen" and from there on fantastic trails around 1000 m downhill towards Kals,
