Trail runners and runner at the end of the field
Grossglockner Trail 75 km is a challenging trail running competition, leading mostly through difficult alpine territory, one time higher than 2.800 m and 2
times higher than 2.500 resp. 2.600 m. Expect 2 larger snowfields to cross, under bad weather conditions even more. For the largest part the track leads over trails (80 %), which are (partwise
very) difficult. Bad weather conditions (low temperatures, rainfall, snow) make the race even harder.
Trails are in average very technical. The hardest parts will be the trails up to and down the high mountain passes: To Stüdlhütte (2.801 m), Kalser Tauern
(2.518 m) and Kapruner Törl (2.639 m) as well as down from Rudolfshütte and (partwise) down from the Kapruner Hochgebirgsstauseen.
Every participant has to be so physically fit and surefooted that they can manage the chosen trail
according to the rules. Experience at longer competitions, in any case combined with experience for moving in high alpine environment are a precondition for the participation in Glockner Trail.
The minimum age for participation is 18 years.
The competition follows the principle of partial autonomous. There are 2 supplying stations with
food and drinks which have to be consumed there. When leaving those places, every participant is responsible for their supply of food and liquids needed on the way to the next supply station.
Further stations to take water are foreseen.
Furthermore, the track leads mostly through high alpine areas. Therefore, every participant is
obliged to present (at the bib distribution) and carry during the whole race the following obligatory equipment (further obligatory material can be prescribed by the OC):
Container for drinks min. 1,5 l
Drinking cup (no cups at the supply stations)
Rescue blanket or bivouac sack
Jacket, with a hood, capable of withstanding the bad mountain weather and made with a
waterproof (minimum recommended: 10 000 schmerber) and breathable
Altitude profile including time limits
Mobile phone (emergency number must be saved), upload your mobile before starting!
First aid set
Due to the time limit, it is possible for runners who need more than 17 hours to get into the night. Taking a headlamp therefore in its sole discretion.
Poles are highly recommended but not obligatory. If used, poles have to be carried from start to
finish and it is forbidden to take them or pass them on when desired.
The obligatory equipment must be taken and shown at the bib distribution where it will be
checked individually. Controls are also possible at any time during and after the race. If it cannot be shown when demanded, the person is either not allowed to start or there will be a
time penalty or even disqualification.
Bibs have to be picked-up personally at the bib distribution, alternatively a power of attorney has
to be provided. Bibs have to be worn visible during the whole race.
The overall time limit for Grossglockner Trail is 22 hours.
For detailed information concerning supply stations please have a look at Infopoint/food supply - nutrition.
